Default the merry sherry spinner

I know I could have just stuck with drunken spinner and played it safe... but what the heck might as well get in the christmas spirit eh

this one was inspired by NCA, and his version of a fly that I have forgotten the name of... im sure someone will remind me. Either way it had one wing up and one wing to the side, cripple style. I've been getting quite obsessive with cdc recently... help!

Nice tying, but what are the wings built from? It looks quite rigid - could 'propellor' like mad on the cast......

You could actually remove the wings altogether and you'd have a really sexy low riding pattern there. You've made a nice job of splitting the tails....

I reckon the plastic wings are a bad idea I'd still like to keep a single wing out to the side, but maybe the cdc would suggest it anyway? I'll have to wait and see what the trout say next summer. A work in porgress. thanks for the comments matt

I've tried the zelon wing tied horizontally off one side and to be honest, it didn't work for me. Stuart (Crofts) swears by it, but I've found a long-ish fibred, sparse parachute hackle works just fine for me.
In my opinion, it isn't so much the single wing trigger the makes the concept so deadly, as the cranking of the hook shank in the horizontal plane to mimic the contorted body of the struggling spinner.

And at the end of the day, fishing in near darkness on the flats of a summer river, when big trout are rising everywhere to a plentitude of spent bwo's, then I don't care what anyone says, you need to be able to see your pattern in order to target individual fish more efficiently (just casting into the melee and hoping for the best is a sure recipe for disappointment, even though there can be so many fish rising it seems like a failsafe tactic).

All the best,
Matt
