midlander will become famous soon enough
Default More sooties

As I picked the sooty olive dabbler for the Irish fly swap I've been messing about myself but didn't post. However, spurred on by WF and NCA's lovely looking morsels I've got my erse in to gear with the camera.

A trad sooty but with dark grey dun cock hackle dyed sun yellow, not unlike iron blue dun dyed in picric and brown dyed olive..

Hook: Hayabusa 373 #10-12.
Thread: UNI-Thread 8/0, olive dun.
Tail: Cock pheasant dyed olive.
Body: Seals fur, sooty olive, med olive, fiery brown mix.
Rib: Oval gold, medium.
Hackles: Cock hackles, dark grey dun dyed sun yellow, brown dyed medium olive. Both stripped down one side, wound bumble style.
Wing: Bronze mallard, clocked 4/5ths.
Cheeks: JC splits.

Another top dropper one with a light brown mallard wing with a few strands of chartreuse silver mallard on the leading edge as I sometimes think the yellow or insect green leading edge of a lake olive wing can be a trigger point..

And the little skinny middle dropper version that I've entered in the swap, tied with hen..

Single handedly humbling the rest of us mortals, you nasty little man! The standard to which I aspire....one fine day.

Great work Alex, like them all, but especially the middle one.

I have the Sooty Olive in the swap and are doing the same type of experimenting, out fishing tomorrow, so will share in the week.

As only Scratch could! LOL

I just thought Midlander was feeling a bit Christmasy and couldn't resist a bit of snow.

Very nice Alex, like the way you've had the velcro attacking the seals fur.

All three look the business to me. I'm looking forward to getting an example of number 3 in the swap.
