Default Replacement Materials

Hi would like to hear other peoples ideas about materials that can be found at home or in the shops for less money than their Fly tying shop alternatives.

The netting that comes with Satsumas, Lemons, Onions etc when pulled out of the net to single strands it's good for ribbing and buzzer bodies cover with Sally's and it looks good and you eat the contents in the net.

Hi flyinghigh go to Hobbycraft you can get coloured wire, plastic and brass beads, I go for holo sheets which are sticky on the back side then I apply black ribbon to it and strip cut it with a paper trimmer at the moment I am cutting purple holo some times I get black holo which is rare, some lads have asked where you get black holo in recent threads well thats how I do it. The fluff traped in the filter from your clothes dryer is a great substitute for dubbing and comes in an array of colours depending on whats in there

pet hair, I am without a pet at the moment, but still have a small amount of Lab hair for dubbing, I'm not a cat person but have heeard they can give up some really good dubbing too. A good brush can give you bags of the stuff. If you are looking for marabou craft/hobby shops used to do it for a fraction of the tying shop prices, dunno if they still do. And theres always the famous Dorritos packet for buzzer cheeks
