Default Hackles for Nymphs, D-bachs etc

I've been tying for a couple years now and have focused on smaller flies ( 16-24 size), lately I've started tying up a few nymphs and diawl bachs on 14-16 hooks and I'm struggling a bit with my current range of capes which where purchased with the smaller stuff in mind.

Would the cheaper Indian capes provide me with longer hackles for tails etc on diawl backs and nymphs, or should I be looking at something else.

If the indian capes will suffice, which would be better hen or cock capes?

Many thanks, V..

indian hen will do just fine for the flies you mentioned, some buy the likes of a metz hen but to be honest I see no problems using the indians.

Agree with Shrek. I have loads of indian capes that were cheap as chips and do a turn. Some of the varigated hackles that pop up are cracking. Problem is they are unique and impossible to get copies of
