Default Ceramic Bobbin

My current old bobbin tends to fray thread ( some threads ) quite easily. Think it may be time to upgrade, and my 4 year old daughter didnt sleep through the night last night so its time she knew what she needs to get me for Christmas

Anyone know a good supplier or a good brand ?

I dont think Sportfish sell them ?

lakeland sell a good range. I use an orvis ceramic which has been a blessing, but unfortunately lakeland dont sell them! not sure where you would get one other than an orvis shop

C & F seem popular here, but at £24 I don't rate them as v.f.m. Try to go for models with a solid & non-swelled tube there's plenty of choice & at a lot less money. There are plenty of ceramic tipped ones out there, someone just fitted a bead inside a metal tube, a cheap method that allows it to be called a ceramic bobbin holder. The swelled tip can block vision slightly & make finite placement of thread challenging.

If you have any of the elongated glass beads you could glue it into the end of your bobbin and save yourself a few quid

I'm a complete noob at this so take this as you please

Upon a bit of searching these forums i found that the Griffin Magnum ceramic bobbin holder was rated highly. I bought one from GAC and have to say it's doing me very well at the moment, fits nice in the hand and i haven't had any broken thread yet. I think Steve Parton sells them at around £8... Oh and it's got a lifetime warranty according to the packaging.

i'm a big fan of the rite bobbins, they are very smooth and you can adjust the tension easily... Lakeland sell them

Sparton Fishing Tackle for the Gordon Griffith's ceramic bobbin holder, still using one I bought about 20 years ago, dropped it, kicked it, stood on it, still as good as new.
The rite bobbin I find is a real cracker as well, use this one for flies you are going to dress with black thread, and have another for flies you are tying say a dozen or so with the same colour thread. The rite is a bit fiddly, but I love the two I have, on a par with the Griffith's or Veniards that I have.
