Default Post colour?

When tying parachute hackled flies does the post colour (i.e. white vs. fluoro pink) matter to a flies effectiveness? I'm sure on a heavily hackled klink it doesn't but what about a sparser paradun.

Two years ago i would have fought in the street trying to convince you it did make a difference.
This season my best "big fish" catcher was a sparse parachute fly with an orange post.

Everyone on here kept harping on saying it did not make a difference and of course i disagreed
One evening i was sitting watching as you do, fish were in a scum line hovering up what appeared to be duns. I had no idea where my white posted fly was and i have eagle eyes. In frustration i put on the orange posted one, hay presto. That style of fly was not off my leader for just over a month and accounted for some stunning fish.

Na they dont work

In a similar vein to Buzz's post, I remember fishing the Lowther one evening a few years ago, with nothing rising and just prospecting around with a pink posted para emerger.
I put a cast in alongside a large boulder and noticed that my fly had, annoyingly, landed upside down/on it side. I was just about to lift off and re-cast when a fish of just over 2lb came up and assaulted the fly like it was the first food it had seen in weeks.

So no, I don't think the colour matters at all - especially if, unlike me, you tie the things properly so they sit the right way up in the water.

I usually use white though. My man insists that the use of coloured posts is uncouth and to be sneered at by the discerning angler. Certainly I rarely resort to such base tactics, preferring to wing my Wickhams with a yarn of the drabbest brown..........matches the tweed don't you know.

I use both pink or orange posts if I am fishing fast water as the fly stands out better, I seem to catch OK with them.

I think post colour makes very little difference. I tend to tie tan or white coloured posts though as a rule. I guess that is because, I am aiming for as natural an imitation as possible.

However, I carry a number tied with pink posts and use these when struggling to see the fly on the water.

Funnily enough, I must confess to having days were a pink-post has outfished a more natural, lighter shade...
