Default Early season 'bow catcher?

Here's one from tonight, a sort of Merkister maid / Norski lad inspired effort in the ever reliable Viva colours;

Always a great colour combo'.
Think the brownies like the black and green better than the 'bows, what do you think?

I think that possibly varies from venue to venue Graham. I know a few 'mixed' fisheries where the black and green combo goes down a treat with the 'bows, and the stockie browns. I don't usually get to fish for wild browns until at least May though so I couldn't give any thoughs on that.

Nice tie Steve

I’ve always caught more rainbows on black & green but that’s because I fish waters with significantly more ‘bows than browns. When I do get the chance to fish for wild browns I tend to go very traditional in fly choice (although I did try a coral booby as an experiment instead of a muddler last time out in Uist , it worked very well but felt very, very wrong ) so wouldn’t like to say how the black & green flies would work there.
