Default Petitjean tool

Hi all

Am thinking of putting this on the small Christmas list but have never used one.

Basically would like to use CDC more in my tyings .

Is this a hard tool to use and have many of you used one ?

Easy to use albeit its uses are limited.
I go through phases of using it, its excellent for one or two patterns other than that it sits collecting dust.
Buy a bull dog clip, if you use it a lot purchase the tool.

Hi Spider,
If you have £20-plus that you care nothing about, buy one. Otherwise you can achieve exactly the same result with a bit of foam and a bulldog clip for a few coppers.
Cut a section of foam just narrower than the longest CDC feathers you will use, then make a slit across it with a craft knife or similar.
Lay the CDC feathers over the slit and, holding the ends, pull down so that they fold back on themselves and are gripped by the foam with the barbs sticking out.
Trim off the excess either end of the foam, then use the bulldog clip to grab the barbs, bend the foam slightly to open up the slit, and lift the CDC clear.
With sharp scissors, trim away the shafts of the CDC and mount the remaining ends into a dubbing loop, then remove the bulldog clip.
It is much easier to do than to describe, but if you know how to use the Petitjean tool you will pick it up immediately.
If you make your foam triangular, you can cut slits of various lengths to suit different sizes of CDC.
Cheers,
Angus

Spider,

I rate the tool very highly. I very much recommend it if you enjoy tying with CDC.

Spider,

I endorse Dave's comments - I personally find the tool very useful - far more versatile that just a bulldog clip.

PM sent.

Kind regards

Agree with Phil although I am intrigued by the new tool Lucian uses:
