Default reverse spinner

tied this one a while back, just improved on better hooks this time and a slightly different angle, still very much a work in progress though.

Nice idea that. Do you find they work?
Have to admit I like the second one better - straight abdomen which won't pierce the surface film.

What hair have you used as the wing?

Incidentally you may find the below interesting. I've been looking for a good, easily visible spinner pattern for a few years now and I reckon I've finally hit the jackpot. It's a corruption of Stu Crofts'/Kelly Galloup's spinner cripple, based on a cranked hook to imitated the 'one wing up, one wing flat, contorted abdomen' attitude of most spinners as they lie on the water. Have a look next time you're stood in the middle of a bwo fall and you'll see what I mean......deadly!

Matt

just a saddle hackle split with foam. They havent had an airing yet but they were meant to imitate egg laying spinners with the sunk abdomen.

cheers for the photies, cracking ties matt! will definately look out for that.

I think that will work well J, not too sure about the blue, but yellow would suit the Eden.

Would a partridge SUD do it, Its a great pattern, I hope you'll both be very happy together. I dont know if its your photos but those tail fibres look really thick.
I am being picky, its a great fly mate!

North country I will be bending a lot of those this winter, do you prefer that hackle to Stu's winging material and tails, and why? I thought the gold spent wings was all part of the charm.?
Your honey golden one at the base is just my kind of 'mess'. What a 'fishy' fly! It looks as translucent as the real thing.

I've adapted the pattern to fish para style purely to make it a bit more visible - I really struggle to see 'flat' patterns in semi darkness. Seems to work just fine, although I've not had chance to do a fair comparison.....
