Default Going smaller

First off remember when you look at this I don't have materials yet and am just trying to get the hang of things . This is not ment to be anything in particular . It was just to see if I could go smaller than the 10s/12s I posted here yesterday.
This was done on a size 16 and has raised some questions for me .

1: Hackle length , how long should it be ??. I know this is long but I don't have the right ones to use and have misplaced my hackle pliers so had to use what I had and what I could hold with my fingers .

2: Picking out , how much is right ??. It wasn't untill I took a snap that I saw How much I had pulled out of the body .

3: Legs , how many and double fibres or single ?? I used single on this as was a smaller fly and put 6 legs on . Is this right or is it up to me what I do ??

4: Scissors , I cant trim tight enough with what I have so what should I be using ??

Sorry for all the questions and cheers for any answers .

Tell ye what Danny, that's a right fishy looking wee dry right there, just as it is....

If you really want to keep things tidy on such a small pattern. I would use a finer dubbing than seal fur rather than trimming it with scissors. I probably wouldnt use hopper legs either, certainly not six.

Having said all that, I would leave it exactly as it is.Trout like flies tied in this way....

Cheers . Yeah as I said it is not ment to be a known fly or anything so it is all just for practice and the legs were to see if I could get it all in without overcrowding

Jesus Danny have you any hooks left

Thats dead on mate but you will have to find your own feet when it comes to the questions you asked because everyone has their own preferences. 1 leg or 2 doesnt really matter, some guys knot twice, again I think it doesn't really matter. The fact you will look into your box see that fly and put it on, now that's what matters.
Just don't be too critical on your self at this stage.

Get your self a pair of them scissors I have, only a couple of quid but well worth it. You won't cut wire but great for hackles and threads

Great tying.
