Default C clamp V Base

As its coming up to Christmas I'm thinking of getting a few bits and bobs to keep me amused during the winter nights so this is my dilema.

The choice is do I stick with my c clamp and get a jungle cock cape for christmas or get a vice base?

I prefer a base as it can be used anywhere, and it's instantly set up ready to be used. Tne only advantages of the clamp are it can be stored in slightly less space ( not an issue ) it's lighter ( but I never go hiking with it ) and it's more secure for when you're really pulling on a thread ( better for big saltwater patterns maybe, but then, you can still hold the head of a pedestal vice and wrap really tightly too).

I'd have to agree with DL on this one, the base is far more 'useable' anywhere....

There are some Bases on ebay, that could accomodate your vice shaft and still be able to get a JC Cape too, if youu look on ebay aswell, there are some great JC Capes at some good prices....

Definitely am going to go for a base as i've had quite a few painful accidents involving the screw on the c clamp.

If you are tying at the same station & have facilities for a clamp to fit, then it has to be a clamp every time. If mobile then I might consider a base.
Problem is that I Like to adjust the shaft on occassion, something that you can not do with a base so for that reason alone I would go for a clamp. Of course you can have both.

Hi
I would def sugest a base. Now I made one at work but it really really saves on the lower back and when tying your tools are less likely to keep falling on the floor.

I prefer a pedestal base.... it is a question of comfort and ergonomics for me.... i am a big lad (6,6" and 18 stone) i find that having the clamp on the edge of the bench isnt right for me, i have to sit too far away from the bench to make it work for me. i guess it is what you are used to, my broither in law swears by the c clamp .

Always used a clamp, never wanted or needed to use a base. The almost infinite adjustment in height & better all round access are primary considerations as far as I'm concerned. Not many pro's &/or volume tiers use bases as they're to restrictive, just depends on your style of tying really.

I use a computer chair to sit on when tying so height isn't a problem. The problem is the screw on the clamp is so long that i got hit by it when raising the chair.

Big Pedestal Vice Base "Yor Welin'" White

OR

Universal Wooden Vice Base

What your thoughts. Also have watched a few jungle cock capes go quite resonable what are your thoughts about this or should i wait till I progress by level of tying ability.
