Default FF & FT Inspiried.....Hobblers

Having read this months FF & FT cover to cover over the last two quiet days at work.... Decided to tie some of the flies that George had written about in his latest series of classic flies, with a little 'Geordie' Twist on them...

I just hope I haven't done too much damage in my 'twisting' on the marriage of the Hopper & The Dabbler, for those who dont read FF & FT, I give you .......The Hobbler...

Taken a bit of notice of what George had written about the flies and their tying, I tried to do them justice.

Lovely looking flys and tying as usuall CS.
One thing I wonder about is - will the effect of the legs stand out enough to be a trigger point or merit the tying? They are very close in colour to the dressing .I would fear that the cloak will swallow them up when wet and pulled?

Great flies Carl and a great article by george as usual

Legs on things like dabblers, bumbles and peters and octopuses have been about on the likes of Melvin for a few years now and they do work well.

A great pattern is the RA Green Peter with legs and the gold old legs eleven.

Thanks Jim,

Having never fished them I couldn't comment on wether they are purely there as asthestics, or as an added trigger points... But I do understand what your saying, that the cloak could shroud, or swallow the legs up when the fly is wet.

Obviously George would be much more informed as to what the effectiveness of the legs actually is, but with the marriage of the Dabbler and the Hopper being the subject of the fly, I guess theres nothin else from a Hopper that you could marry to a Dabbler and get the same outcome?

I wonder if the option to make the Mallard more of a McClearn 'Wing' style option which would allow the seperation of the Bronze Mallard and the legs...Rather than the full McClearn style cloaking with the Mallard?

Still, I will tie some more, in #12's and prepare them for Stocks and Brenig next season....

Carl
