Default Free floating dun

I recently came across a similar tying to this one and thought...Mmmm, that could work.
So I played around a bit. Picture quality not too good (bit rushed)
Hook: Partridge 15BNx (Klinkhamer Extreme)
Thread: Spider Web
Tails & Body : 2x microfibetts and 2mm grey foam, Olive marker pen on top
Wing: EP INternational Trigger Point Fibres (Dark Dun)
Hackle: Dun cock hackle (3 turns) tied off under body.
Click the image to open in full size.
Theoretically, this should float with the hook straight down. Hook ups?????

Hook down and the fly looks good but... maybe something a little smaller 'hook-wise'? I'll have a couple o' dozen too please

Not sure and despite its appearance it is easy to tie.
I make the body separately on a needle. Cut the foam into a 'V" and then insert the needle between the two. I use a razor blade for this. Similar to how Peter Smith does his foam bodies (BFFI).
Tie a wing in over the eye.
Now, I place the body over the thread for the wing and 'Figure of 8' the body on to the hook. I try and get it to be at right angles to the hook. I then 'super glue' the two front pieces together before trimming.
Take the tying thread down the hook, tie in hackle, 3 turns and then tie off.

This hook is a size 20. All the fly is tied in the thorax region of the hook.

Glad you like, now get tying.

Nice fly, but looks like it would get crushed storing it in the fly box, unless you have a deep fly box.

liking that one phil, good to see the hackle on the underside for a change, where it should be really. Have you bent the hook near the eye? I do wonder too about hooking properties. Think I know the one you were thinking of, ulf's killer is it? I did see something similar in a mag but using ready rolled bodies instead of the foam.

keep us all updated with how you get on with it, a lovely tie indeed. If I may ask, how have you secured the foam body? or is it just allowed to swivel around the shank? cheers!

Jonnie,
If you know how Peter Smith makes his body then the answer is there. He has two pieces joined at the tip into which he places the needle. You make the body on the needle and then tie off while it is on the needle. So, when you get to tie it onto the hook I place a piece each side and then Figure * it on. It is then fixed. Mind you, you dob't need too many loos.
The kook hasn't been altered. It is a Klinkhamer Extreme. Size 20.
