Martin,
The kooks most commonly used are:
Kamasan B175 - but I think these are too heavy
Tiemco 102Y or 103BL's - I use the latter most of the time
Grip hooks 11011BL - Talk to Phil Holding at Spidersplus
And if you want a short body, try Kamasan B160.
The typical sizes are 14's and 16's

I'm using grip 11011bl, very similar to the tmc103bl, but i prefer it and it cheaper
Flytying Boutique - for unusual and interesting materials

Following a prev. thread on the same subject I've been using Partridge YL3A (or L3AY) Capt Hamilton sz14 - also as a nice barbless dry hook.
Available £5/100

Thinking of moving to TMC103BL (or Grip 11011BL) after seeing them tied up by Paul proctor recently - nice hooks, very fine and good points.

I've said this before and you're probably bored of hearing it, but why do people insist on using tmc103s for spiders?? They are a fine hook I'm not disputing it, but their black colouration totally negates the effect that can be achieved using the classic Pearsall silks.

With a more conventional bronze wire hook, the translucent effect which makes spiders so special is readily achieved. The black of the 103bl totally deadens the effect - even on dark patterns such as purple snipe (although the 'little black' and 'black magic' work ok).

For small black dries, there is no better hook in my opinion.......but for spiders I'd go for a more conventional - if less fashionable - pattern such as the Mustad R50 any day of the week.

On that subject I dress a few on some Allcocks #16s ,they got relegates to the redundant stock whilst I went the big rinbow route but dug them out again when I saw ssense and started fishing for proper sized trout with lighter than #6 rods !
Superb hooks made in Britain just after the second world war!

TMC 2200BL for me, size 14 & 16 - number of grayling lost has gone down several-fold since switching to these.
