Default top materials

what couldnt you live without?

I couldnt go without a patch of hares fur, brown partridge hackles and a whiting dry fly grizzle saddle, and black tungy beads for those scratching days I reckon I could cope all year round with just these, for my river fishing any way.

Defo a natural & dyed olive hares mask, partridge hackles, cdc, few hen capes and some pearl tinsel & gold/silver wire, orange/red/olive/purple/primrose/brown/black thread, black/gold tungsten beads and some clear nymph skin

that would do me for the rivers, good question though mate! its only when you think about it that you realise how much you need every material you have and want

I was deffo thinking about adding cdc, rainy's crosslink foam and coastal deer hair to the list!!! fine gold oval comes in handy too nevermind all that thread.... but I think I could live with just any sombre and fine thread like a tan/dun sheer 14/0 or orvis 12/0.....

you gotta love fly tying

pheasants tail, hares mask(though I wouldn't be upset if it was pine squirrel instead) natural CDC and an espresso machine.

Greys unfortunately are sh!t. Pine squirrel is totally different, you want the whole pelt. Its like a cross between hare and mole.Really lovely.
Oh and don't let any one tell you Ground squirrel is the same it aint!

Oh and the espresso machine is to keep me awake!

cheers WP will remember that. I've not had chance to look at one close up yet, how do you rate the guard hairs for use as tails? and can you make nice 'buggy' dubbing like you can with hare? sorry for all the questions
