Default Reversed Bumbles

A few from my tying bench...

I love this style of Reversed Bumble devised by Rod Tye, and am really enjoying tying a number of different variants. I hope you like...

Have to say I have recieved some fantastic materials over the last week or two that are all evident in these patterns from Gerry, Saracen, Flyfishing-Uk and Pearly Dabbler

Cheers Ben

Very nice ties
The one thing I did wonder why not use a standard wet hook.

Nice tying, Ben. There's a bit of snatcher about these flies, tied on the curved hooks, for my money. Have you tried any on straight hooks?

Regards,

Regards,
I have tried on a straight hook but they don't look right, I'd rather tie them in the traditional way with tippets at the tail on a straight hook.

Rod Tye never gave a huge amount of rationale behind his decision to use a grub hook, other than he started with that as it was 'short in the shank , hungry in the gape'.
I think the short shank and large gap works well because the trigger point is moved to the front of the fly, so giving better hook up's with this type of pattern.
I'm not going to argue either, as it was the sooty TRB that accounted for my 5lb brown whilst pulling on Corrib this year, and by heck was it an explosive take and perfect hook up!

The reversed Bumbles are a favourite of mine ,i use pheasant feathers for the head hackles ,some natural some dyed and they fish well in a small ripple to a medium sized wave

Hi Ben,
lovely flies, another style to put on my winter tying list. Any idea why Mr Tye called them reversed?

Cheers

A
