Default First of the winter tying frenzy....

Its started! As usual at the start of my winter tying season, I sat down without a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve....the result was a handful of river bugs and a few stillwater patterns. I've posted one of each below. Please be forgiving - it always takes me a few sessions to get my eye in!

MGDM - A muddled version of the Malham Green Dabbler. It accounted for a few nice fish on a drizzly day at the end of the season.

Hook: FM comp #10
Thread: UTC70, brown olive
Tails: PT dyed picric
Rib: gold oval
Body: mix of olive seals furs with a pinch of insect green thrown in
Hackle: Furnace hen
Wing: BM with JC splits over
Head: olive roe deer

Glister Rhyac - A variation on a theme by (I think) Dave Wiltshire. This is getting a run out on my grayling leader sometime very soon.

Hook: Scorpion #12
Thread: UTC70 brown olive
Underbody: lead wire
Rib: UTC vinyl rib in olive
Body: Hare ice dub, olive brown
Hackle: grey partridge (cock)

Nice work Matt. That garden could do with some attention though... I guess you leave it to Mrs NCA though eh? Good man.

I thought you might have went with one of those yummy new grizzly hen hackles for the body on the Muddler?

Superb Matt, nice to see all the money spent at the BFFI is being put to good use.
Look forward to testing one with you on Malham next season.

Tempted mate, very tempted. Have you ever been out and bought 3 or 4 CDs and you can't work out which to listen to first? That's how it felt with all my BFFI goodies this aft - I was trying to think up a pattern which used about 5 different hackles, a dozen shades of seals fur, 7 different PT colours..... .and Rootbeer sparkly stuff!

When I've got me head together, I've got some serious tying to do.....

Yes the garden needs work. Got me ruler and blu-tack sorted.....but unfortunately, the bins up our way come in two species - black and brown. A re-think is required.
