Default Bronze mallard alternative

Ok gents, I've run out of bronzed mallard for me dabblers (Gerry very kindly sending me some by next day delivery tomorrow) but in the mean time what can I use as an alternative?

I've just tied a couple using pheasant tail and they have turned out ok but is there anything else lurking in my scierra fly tying bag that I could use?

Those scierra bags are huge and I'm sure there will be something in there lurking at the back that I've forgotten about!!

FJ

OH and Grommit - you weren't wrong when you told me all I'd be doing for the next few weeks is spending money filling the bag. I'm about £200 down so far!! turns out your bargain bag is costing me a small fortune!!

How about trying French partridge or guinea fowl for a different look.

Hen pheasant wing or tail?

And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

I would suggest that you wait for your bronze mallard to be delivered. If you do have some of the dyed brown silver mallard then use that if you must.
The trouble is you just cannot get the grey or silver mallard to dye to the colour you want,
so best wait, my friend.

You would be best waiting for the real McCoy to arrive

I would agree with Bear, but you could have a go with barred teal.

Think I'll leave it until Gerry's pack arrives.

Took another look at the pheasant tail ones this morning after the heads had cured overnight and they don't look right - although if I put them in the "spares" section I might be able to off load them onto Del Boy!!

Robroy - I wouldn't worry too much about the ducks - it's the sheep I'd worry about most - I might pop over this afternoon so make sure that kettle is on!
