Hi mate. You should contact phil from spidersplus on here. He is like the Yoda of spiders! lol
He was very helpful with me when i had loads of spider questions. He can also supply materials.

Good luck with the ties.

Tight lines.

Hi mate,

English grey will do fine, i use a fluro-orange neon thread for mine, and for peaty water there the dog's noodles, oh and i don't wax either.

Fluoro orange neon?! Sacrilege!

You are on the money with the partridge neck feathers. You'll probably need to buy a skin to get the nice little spoon shaped ones that you need. The loose packet stuff just won't cut the mustard....oh and your bird preferably needs to be a cock rather than a hen. Steve at Cookshill is as good a supplier as I know.

I agree with Fred on the wax - not necessary in my humble opinion.

Cobblers wax is a dark wax and it serves a few purposes;
To darken thread, such as in a greenwells glory to produce an olive shade,
To help with dubbing fur,
and to a lesser extent, to protect the real silk from rotting!

Bees wax covers points 2 and 3

Ilike wax on my spiders, but I wipe any excess off. Also I prefer brown back hackles (english partridge) if I can. I don't use pearsals, but I do use a flat orvis in a nice rusty orange colour.

wax just makes it stick a little... you do the logic.
