Default Buzzers on the cast

Im interested to know if you guys have any favourite buzzer patterns for each particular position on the cast. Ie heavy for point, hackled or seals fur for top dropper etc.

Ive messed around the last couple of seasons to try to get close representations of the natural. Here are three that Ive had results on.

Also interested to see if others fish a combination of "straight" buzzers and "curved buzzers" on the same cast.

Would be great to hear from some of the comp guys on this and definately some of the Corrib boys and maybe get to see some of their secret weapons.

Not a lot wrong with your thinking there mate.
Still not sure about the curved vrs straight hooks yet?
Tend to tie on curved but dont move them very fast if at all.
If pulling, generally would opt for a diawl bach type pattern on a straight hook.
I do think we have moved away from the seals fur buzzer in favour of the superglue types.
Perhaps we should try the older style again.

Default Curved v Straight buzzers

I have gone back to straight hooks for most of my buzzers as I found there are days when you can't connect with the takes on a curved hook. I also tie my buzzers very short so that you get a size 18 on a size 14 hook and so on.

While I love to see all these close copy buzzers I'm not convinced that it makes much difference on a normal (as normal as any fishing day can be) day

Where it does make a difference (I think) is on those days where fish are very very picky and takes very very gentle and infrequent. That's about the only time I use a super realistic fly.

Cheers

I guess I am still in the stone age, point a big coves nymph , middle either a smaller cove or a spider ,top a spider or some times a wee halfhog.
Thats for dead slow fishing , for pulling ,point a kingsmill , with a red Arrow varient and a dark claret bumble on the top, with a a possible mudler red arrow also there on top at times .
Mid season the colurs change on the pulling cast to olives and greys with more orangy bits.
Dead slow remains the same bar an odd camel fur buzzer with orange biots or JC cheeks.

I have to say that i tend to go for simplicity. Diawl bachs and flexi/epoxy buzzers. I just mix it around depending on where the fish are in the water. About straight vs. curved hooks, i use both but i tend to use straight more if i'm concentrating on the upper layers, and curved the deeper i go.

i prefer straight hooks to curved and as for colours it nearly always claret on the point black in the middle and olive on the top size 10s to start with then work down in size

I like either a black or olive buzzer on the point, I tend to fish small size 14.
And a Diawl Bach tied slim not like a caterpillar, also on a 14,
This combination caught me two five pounders today, one on each fly fished under an indicator, very slow retrieve.
