Default wing material for scottish loch wets

What's the ideal wing material for traditional Scottish wet loch flies ?.
such as the Blae & Black , Greenwell's Glory , Cinnamon & Gold etc.
some sites say Grey mallard and others say pheasant wing.

Blae & Black and Greenwell's I would use either mallard, jay or starling (Mallard easiest to get hold of and cheapest).

Cinamon and gold - not sure sorry.

I use hen pheasant on Invictas but can't think of anything else I personally use it for.

Woodcock feathers - try cookshill

As above, the cinammon and gold is cinammon hen (chicken)

Just to confuse things!? I have stared using hair on my larger wets, especially those I intend to use as bob flies, for its greater movement and translucency. Been picking up a few of the dead squirrels carpeting the road around here and have a good, varied supply of natural colours that emulate those of the original feathers (such as hen pheasant and that).

Just a thought!

Andy

Find someone who feeds them, next to a road! Half tempted to go and ask them to stop if they really do care for the wee critters but . . . .

Incidentally, they are 'reds' rather than 'greys' that also have their uses!

Enjoy your woods,

Andy

Good shout Andy. I've not made a habit of it, but one variant I tried and had a good deal of joy with is a Silver Invicta with a squirrel wing. Most pleasing to the eye, nice range of colours, catches fish, as you say gives plenty movement and translucency, and last but not least....much more durable
