After Bolton Tyers last Tue watching Malcolm Greenhalgh I'm using Cork!

Basically the idea is it goes "plop" on landing thus attracting the trout to the surface - and it won't sink 'cos it floats like a.....

Im using a heaver hook (B175) to help get the thing to turn over and orient upright on landing. - caught on first and second casts when I wet my first one last Wed.

Now about to try a cork body sedge based on a cock-up on the cutting process resulting in a sedge shaped body, so I just tied on some antennae and hey presto - yet to wet that one....

Now all the purists can murder me.......

PS: got some pix if you need 'em - or buy MG's book
PPS: Malcolm says it HAS to be Mouton Rothschild 1967 or the trout won't take it - (and he did have a cork with that stamped on !! )

Did he drill the cork with a tube or did he cut a bit off and shape it.??

He cut it off in a longitudinal "slice" forming a slight V shape, then superglued the base wrapping thread, added the cork, thinnest edge down, then over tied a few wraps, almost like a rib effect back to the eye.
Cut off excess behind hook (not a v long body) then tie normal daddy style - legs, wings, hackle.

I must say he cut a much thicker body than I'd have gone for if I was to try it myself, but I copied his dimensions and they worked. Viewed from below, you can go quite thick on the cork above the hook since that dimension is not easily determined when the hook is riding correctly.

Shape a bit like this end on \_/

Could be worth a try too, tho hand cutting produces some variation which may not be a bad thing.

I saw some nice looking Wapsi ones on the eyebrook tackle stand at the bffi show. I really should have bought some, they were very fine and about 2 inches long and a nice buff colour. I did buy a nice fluorescent green block of the same material, I have yet to try it but its great to see foam with such a strong colour and high density.
