Hi Steve, good to have met you yesterday. White razor foam, tried all the usual suspects as I expect you have but no-one lists white for some reason.

What is it you need if for, as www.deercreek.co.uk list some "translucent" colours. I've had some samples & they are (arguably) just translucent. I suppose you could use some thin white vinyl sheeting over it. I mean there's usually a several ways around these "challenges". Tee shirt paint perhaps.

I'll p.m. you my contact numbers so we can chat about it, but this afternoon & Monday a.m. are out as I'll be dealing with various hospital "things".

Cheers

Hi there. I don't need Razor foam per se, just a very thin foam I can wind around a needle for extended mayfly bodies. The Razor foam in white is a nice matt finish and can easily be painted with permanent markers. Wound foam makes for good segmentation and the white base means it can be painted to a more realistic colour.

Try your local poundshop...various colours, 8 sheets to a pack, about 1.5 to 2mm thick, A4 size.

There is a material the building trades uses called Tyvek, its used for insulation.
It is thin stretchable & white. Is also found wraped round boxed electrical goods such as DVDs etc. That would be ideal for segmented bodies I would have thought. Ever tried Copydex rolled on a bit of glass, that makes an interesting Mayfly body.

Hi Steve,

I use the 2mm thick sheets that you get from Hobbycraft for my detached bodies. They come in A5, A4 or even A3. I stocked up again yesterday, as they also make great backgrounds and soft boxs for taking photo's.

If you don't have a Hobbycraft local, pm me and i'll send you a couple of A5 sheets.

Cheers
Ben

Way too thick for what I want Ben. This stuff is 0.5 mm thick.

Arkle, I don't recall the guy's name but he was from the Continent.

I've seen the Copydex and used silicon and dubbing (and also used thread to segment thicker foam). The Razorfoam method is the best I've seen.

Ok, I know the stuff you mean I have that in a few colours but not white, however its available as Lakeland sell it.

I must admit though that the Hobbycraft stuff is cheaper and stretches, it can be tied down to size 18 detached bodies. I tied some Olives last year with it.

These flies were tied with white foam dyed with magic marker ink.
