Lovely tyings mate, nice variant,

just wonder is their a reason why you dont cloak the fly to finish off,

the underbody from the neck down needs something,

me thinks in my mad irish humour

Hi Niel,

Throw them out 45 degree to the wave and pull like buggery. When the fly comes near the boat stop and dibble.Don't forget to strike!!

Hi Nobble,

What you are describing is a Movilla dabbler with the cloak right around, what I have tied is the original McClearn style, which I prefer, as the colour of the fly can be seen from below. Usually the direction in which the trout comes from.
Also the fly is tied to represent a perch fry, which would have the dark strip along the back of the fish and all the flash below the lateral line.
I would usually cloak if I am trying to represent say a mayfly or nymph.

That wee bit of gold flash mixed in with the bronze mallard wing reminds me of one of my favourite dunkeld variants Sam.Its a Loch Leven pattern from the 90s originally. Its a hell of a steady catcher for me throughout the season....rainbows as well as broons...
