Default cape recommendation for spiders....

Having just taken up tying i am in the process of gathering some materials together. I have bought a vice and tools. I will be buying materials for the patterns as i need them.

My first tie was a yellow owl (Davie McPhail you tube) because i fish with it alot.

I also fish spiders alot so will be tying them next.

Can someone recommend a cape to buy for this purpose? I want the hackles to be sparse and soft. I also wouldnt mind a selection of different colours.
A recommendation of a supplier for these capes and other spider materials would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Paul.

Default Capes for spiders

If you only buy one cape get a Whiting Brahma hen in natural grey or natural brown. It covers all partridge applications pretty well and is cheap.

Cheers

Hi Paul,
If you can possibly get there, head for the British Fly Fair International at Stoke this weekend. There will be huge amounts of materials on sale, with the advantage that you can actually handle the stuff before you buy.
You will also be able to see and talk to some of the best tiers from around the world, and these guys are always happy to advise on materials and techniques.
Google BFFI for details.
Cheers,
Angus

I would have loved to go to the fly fair but its just too far away for me and work would not permit.
Is it on the same time and place every year? I will put it in the diary for next year!!
