Question Anvil or HMH ?????

Can anyone please advise me?

I'm fairly new to tying but am really quite into the whole thing and intend to stick at it. I have a cheap lever vice (Caimore), which I'm thinking of replacing with either an Anvil Apex or an HMH Spartan, something that will do me the rest of my tying days. A sensible upgrade without going to great expense.

I've been leaning toward the Anvil but have been told the Spartan is the bees knees.

I mainly tie stillwater lures, nymphs, wets and some dries. I'd like to expand a bit so would appreciate your direction greatly.

HELP !!!

Lightbulb Go the way of the HMH.

Actually, the name 'HMH' came from a friend who distributed fellows initial vises. Actually stands for 'His Messy House' do to all the metal filings, et al as the fellow perfected his first series of 'boy toys.'

That's my story, as I heard it, and I'm sticking too it.

Edit: The HMH and the Grant King 'Baracoda's' (sp?) (and the others in the line) are one of the few you could beat on with a hammer and the end result would be 'nil.'

Thanks Freda

Any particular reason for the preference for the HMH?

Very helpful freda, Thanks again.

Thanks to all so far for your help, which really is much appreciated.

From what I've heard so far, it looks like it's a no-brainer in favour of the HMH.

Cheers All

Had an HMH, was okay, but not on the same planet as a Dyna-King. I bought a s/h D/K Pro some 14+ years ago. I've tied many 1000's of flies since then & the jaws still are like new. I've tried many others including a LAW & still prefer it to anything else on the market.

My wife bought me a HMH and I love it. I only have 1 problem she bought a clamp model and when I put it into my pedestal its too tall, Im going to get somebody to cut the stem down to a comfortable length for me.
