Hi Charlie. For starters, Boobies, like blobs are vulgar, uncouth sons-of-b!tches and are the work of the devil; therefore I use them mainly when I'm doing the devils work... competition fishing

Ain't no pleasure in tying or using either of the above for me, but the booby most definately has its uses; so does the blob, but I'd rather not talk about that! I soften the pain of tying and using boobies by 'traditionalising' them, or simply whacking a set of eyes on a hopper or a Diawl Bach.
Anyway, Booby vs Muddler ? Well, for one thing, I rarely use boobies when pleasure fishing. Partly from a fish welfare perspective (although I rarely find them swallowed deep when retrieved with any reasonable pace, as opposed to fished static or very slow) and partly because I'd rather be fishing with other things that make me go big downstairs. I never use boobies when fishing for wild fish... a little decorum is required sometimes!

Also, I never use a booby on a dropper. I know plenty who do, but I just can't get me 'ead round it. I'm as happy as Larry though with muddlers anywhere on the cast.
Then there's that satifying, fish attracting (or scarring?) pop-pop-pop of the booby during the first few pulls. You'll never replicate this with a muddler, although a good sized, and maybe ginked up muddler will shift a heck of a lot of water.
As you know mate, a muddler can do the same job as a booby when washing lining. Pound for pound though, a booby on the tail will hold a washing line up higher, and for longer than a muddler. It's good to have the two basic options though to enable the desired arc to be achieved. Of course, sometimes it just comes down to what feels right on the day, and it's often a straight choice between a beautifully manicured muddler, and, to me at least, the colder, more clinical, but nevertheless deadly booby.
Hope tha made some sense mate... It's 3.30 am, I'm bog-eyed, but who cares! I'm going fishing in a few hours

It's a comp..... so I might just dig a booby out
