Default Odd Colour Combination.

Any of you fly tyers out there every had any success combining odd colours on traditional wets. Like dark & light, or dark and bright

Im sure someone has tried this before but I was dying up some bronze mallard a picric mix and was putting it into various flies. I tried it with claret and was suprised with the results. Difficult to see from the photos but when held up to the light the colours compliment each other, way better than I expected. Probably wont catch a cold but, cant wait to try them next season.

I did catch my biggest ever Melvin Trout last year on a claret dabbler with a sunburst deerhair underwing

They say great minds think alike Greg, so how the hell you and I came up with the same idea is beyond me

Heres a couple of 'Raggy Claret & Olive Bumbles' I've done in anticipation of some Olive action on Malham and Tal-y-Llyn next season. I also tied a claret and olive Dabbler earlier this season but never got around to using it in earnest.

The first one is done with Sam's dark claret cock and dark olive grizzle cock, wound together but both hackles stripped down one side to reduce the flue-brush effect.
The second is done with the grizzle olive again, but this time paired with claret hen. The hen is a bit on the light side for my liking, but we'll see how it goes.

Oakham, Both look fishy to me, I like the second one best though. As for Scratch's efforts, the first one is simply stunning, amazing photo, and the tying aint bad by comparison, the second one looks average, but next to any of mine it would look brilliant
