Default BFFI help requests?

Ladies and Gents,

By now you will all have seen the BFFI notices and flyers, and I'm sure several (at least) of the forum members will be attending.

I am on the Fly tying Clinic section (near the Fly Dressers guild stand) with Ian Mckenzie, Wendy Gibson and others and as usual I will carry dozens of materials, tinsels, hooks and silks to try and answer as many queries as possible. But I can't carry everything!

If anyone wants help with a particular aspect of tying please let me know via this forum before the show and I'll make sure I take the appropriate hooks materials etc.

Before I get the usual comments, I am not being paid for doing this show nor am I selling anything, this is good old fashioned free help and advice and who knows you may even teach me something!. If you have any Salmon tying requests let me know those too and I'l make sure Ian is ready to help out. He's a much better Salmon tier than me!

I'm really looking forwards to this year, please bring your cheque books for the auction which helps a really good cause and support your real life tackle and materials dealers who will all have stands at the show.

Cheers

Even the very thought of paired wingslips is enough to make me start fretting, and I suspect many other new tyers feel the same way too.

Default Requests noted

I will bring along materials for all those flies mentioned, Klinks are always popular, I expect to tie about 3 dozen over the course of the show!

Look forwards to seeing everyone and putting faces to the names.

Cheers

Chris

If your Klinkhamers are sinking more than likely it is poor hackling or too heavy tippet. Unlikely to be the wing post.

Default Sinkhamer

Quite right, the wing post will have little effect on the floatation unless it is so heavy that it tips the fly over and sinks the hackle. This can happen if you allow varnish to seep up the post. No I've not done it myself but one of my students did.

Klinkhamers are meant to sit low in the water so the hackle is relatively sparse compared to standard dries but in turn it is longer than usual so for a size 12 klink you will use a size 10 hackle and so on. If it sinks it is either overdressed with materials that soak up water or the hook is too heavy.

Cheers
