Default CDC Wing post

HI Guys
Is the wing post on Klinks used soley for sight??
The reason I am asking is I found that a post of CDC floats a bit better/higher and I was thinking of including it in various colours in other klinks for slightly rougher water

Would a post of antron sink the fly that little bit deeper which would leave it beter suited for calmer conditions??

Any views??

Thanks

I personally believe that the post is for sight and bouyancy - I don't think the fish see the post as much as on a paradun fly.

I have been tying my own klinks with chartruese, orange and pink CDC posts and this does not seem to have affected the success of the patterm - meaning that I do not believe that it has put the fish off but is certainly better for my eyesight!

I do not think that Antron posts float very well so always use Aero Dry Wing if I want a virtually unsinkable klink for rough water. I do tie in the hackle with the best side down to give a tulip effect to help the pattern swim low in the water.

Kind regards

the wing post does help the fly stay up, especially polypro yarns such as TMC aerowing.

In rough water I prefer to use non-cdc dries, I find cdc gets a bit drenched plus it aint that easy to see in its natural state.

I don't use antron, so I couldnt tell you about that.

Recently I got my hands on some of that cdc oil from Marc Petijean and rubbed it into the cdc after tying and I must say it was deadly, the fly was very very boyant. I caught a fish and two or three false casts and the fly was up again.

Your right Spidersplus I must get my hands on some of that aero wing.

Also try the Puglisi material from spiderplus for wingposts, it takes some beating.

McFlylon is likely a better choice for wing posts

I've been using cdc for klink wingposts and Petijean cdc oil for a couple of seasons now - mostly for river fishing. Generally I don't have any problems in seeing the fly and with cdc & oil it floats well.

Hi Phil

Interesting comment re: wing posts there Phil. I wonder why fish don't see wing posts so much on Klink type patterns, compared to Paraduns. Can you expand on that?

Cheers
