Default Couple of dries tied tonight

Heres a Klinkhamer and a cdc comparadun/bread and butter (buzz). Feedback appreciated.

cdc comparadun (sz 14 kamasan b400)

klink (sz 10 kamasan b100)

the hackle on the klinkhamer is pretty rough - I need to get it much tighter to the bottom of the wingpost.

Q - do you tie wind the hackle with the so that it curves upwards or downwards on a klinkhamer?

Very nice, I tie with the curve upwards, in other words the shiny side of the featherdown.

Its intresting how different people tie their hackles, I prefer to tie mine dull side facing down.

I might as well jump in.

I am no expert on Klinks but i tie the hackle in "up" the post with thread wraps then work my way back down to he peacock herl. Apparently the way to do it is so the hackle sits in a "v" thus the fly sits deeper in the water. I would therefore say shiny side facing away from the water.

The BnB, I dont think you have used enough CDC. Also lay the CDC flat and match the tips before tyeing in, dont cut it you loose the natural halo effect, the line is too sharp. I like more or a taper going from thin at the tail to fatter at the head. What sort of dubbing are you using, it does not look that fine?
Forgive the list here but you did ask! Try and get the CDC to sit half moon style on the hook so it spreads out in an ark as apposed to a wee tuft.

PM on the way

Mark

Buzz
exactly what I'm looking for - only starting out so looking for as many tips as I can get.
Using Fly-rite dubbing, reddish brown, it looks fairly fine undubbed but I may be dubbing too much at a time.
I was wondering about cutting the wing on the bnb, I'll try a few without cutting and more feathers per fly. Any particular type of cdc feather (types 1, 2, 3 or 4) best for this pattern?

When you say sit in a half moon do you mean allow the cdc to come down around the sides of the shank tightening?

Sorry for all the q's

Steve

Fly-rite is good and as you say less is more but you know that. Now 1/4 what you think is less!
DONT cut the wing, look at the SBS video all should become clear. As for what type of cdc i am not fussy its about getting enough on to float it so on size 14s i can use up to 4 or 5 feathers, i never go below 3 even on wee size 18s.
The half moon comment...what i mean is the cdc should sit from 9 O'Clock 'till 3 O'Clock yours looks as if its sitting from 11 'till 1?

Hope this helps.
