Default Snatcher take 2

Following on from the comments about my claret snatcher, I thought I'd have another go this time in olive. I've tried to take on board the comment received. The JC split has kicked out a bit and I wish I'd done the butt orange. Apart from that I'm pretty pleased with this.

I also dropped back to my 'comfort zone' with a buzzer.

Any comments greatfully received.

Nicely done. The body hackle looks very Snatcher like. Nothing wrong with the green butt either.

Really like them ........top draw !

if i was to make any comments and this is being so very picky....and is not meant as a criticism...

Personally I would use Goose Biots for cheeks (on the buzzer) as i think they hold the colour better look 2 tone, and have a better shape..sort of tapered. They are also brighter!

And i would have pearl mirage over the thorax (or mirage over red holo to create a traffic light effect)..again i feel this little flash helps the fly stand out in the crowd..

As for the Snatcher.....I prefere them tied on a Gold hook....and would have had a Pearl or Red butt. Sometimes floss (that's not varnished or ribbed can slip down the hook and look untidy)

Again sorry ...my thoughts aren't meant to be a criticsm at all as they are cracking flies that i'd happily fish with !

Thanks for the comments gents.

Rob, no problems at all with being picky, It’s re-assuring if anything it must mean that the basics are getting there and as you say some of it is personal preference.

I’ve never really got on with ‘fancy’ coloured hooks, back in the day (coarse fishing, I’ve not been fly fishing long) I did try some red bloodworm hooks but they were rubbish which has put me off so it’s standard bronze Kamasans for me

I do usually varnish the butts, I try to do 1/2 dozen before I start to tie the flies to give the varnish a chance to dry. I only tied 1 for the picture though so didn’t bother

I have tried biots for the cheeks of buzzers but I found them really fiddly so went back to floss – I will give it another go though. I do sometimes put a bit of pearl flash on the thorax cover, I will give the pearl over holo a go, sounds interesting.

Thanks again for all your comments. My tying is coming along in leaps and bounds at the moment and I think this forum is responsible for that. Not just in the comments received but the simple act of photographing my flies, when you see them full screen on the monitor you certainly see a lot of mistakes. I wish I’d had the confidence to post up some of my efforts earlier I’m sure it would have helped me progress quicker.

Cheers again - Steve

That latest snatcher is pretty much perfect mate. The body hackle is for sure. Try an orange (No. 6 or 7) butt with a hares ear body and a tiny bit of pearly ice dub mixed in with the fur. Top work WF

very nice, I bet the snatcher will work very well as a sedge pupae imitation for sure.

If I was being a picky ars*hole I'd say the butts on both flies need a bit more work- the snatcher being a little bumpy and the quill on the buzzer being a little overlapped perhaps but they still look stunning ties.
