Default Stuart Crofts fly tying workshop.

I have just been to a day orginised in Fotherighay, where the local club booked Stuart Crofts.

I know of him through sending caddis samples to him for the uk occurence scheme.
He showed a dozen tyers of all levels, four very practical and well thought out patterns, and then guided us all through to successfully recreating them. The materials where available for each pattern , so everyone could copy.
The typical comment was that they where fly's for fishing rather than fly's to show off a fly tyers skill, and he had tailored his choice to the insect life on the local Brook.
What was particuarly brilliant was watching older members who reckoned they couldn't see past a size 12 fly, tying patterns down to an 18 with a little help and no trouble. And giving them the enthuisiasm to try using them.

I can not praise Stuarts teaching methods and infectious enthusiasm highly enough. Everyone was talking about getting him back soon for another four patterns. Or booking him for guiding next year.

For any small group or club looking for an interesting social occasion or fund raising event I cant recomend him highly enough.
Those who havent come across his 'No Nonsense' approach check him out at the BFFI, I think like Oliver Edwards, hes likely to become a National treasure!

Has any one been on any of his other type's of workshops? I have heard he does one on sex life of flys.

Met him last year at a Penrith AA social evening, where he gave a talk on various fly life etc.
Had the pleasure of his company a year or so ago at another evening function.
As you say, a national treasure, down to earth, straight talking knowledgeable Yorkshire man.
Long may he reign.
