Default A few bumbles

After messing around with my new camera all night, thought I may as well post a few resultant shots.

After ruining my whole box of bumbles, its taking a fair bit of time to replace them all, but here's a few to see.

see I'm at the stage were i think Ive heard everyone goes through ,and thats when i feel the urge to change the fly to something new every 3-4 flies or less so i never really get a well set box of flies like yours as I'm always changing flies , but great ties mate ,love to see a fly box tidy as that .

keep up the great work.

Hey Benny boy
Dont you think it would be more in your line to be tying a few minkie's, floating fry and a few wet hoppers for me to rob out your box in a few weeks time....
Like the flies but one thing. Do you not think jungle cock on bumbles sort of defeats the purpose of the blue jay. The blue jay is a long soft hackle designed to move and kick when pulled through the water and I find the jc cheeks sort of trap the blue jay down. JC seems to work fine on dabblers but I'm not a fan of it on bumbles. Just me being picky in my old age. Mind you whats the bets you out fish me some day next season with your JC bumbles. I can just see it comming .

Well spotted Rob,

that fly is a copy of a lovely pattern given to me by Tom Doc Sullivan. I know he's published it, as one of his top patterns.
It's called a Birkhamshore (spelt something like that?), He gave it to me for fishing during the olives, I have a feeling that its not that well known as is local to Cornamona. Maybe TH knows more?

Will photograph later tonight.

Cheers
Ben

TH,

You may be right about the JC, but I'lllook forward to proving you wrong!

....and by the way I have whole shoals of minkies and fry waiting to swim, as I tied instead of fished at the weekend.

Pics look great, maybe experiment with some bounced light or backlit thru . Perpex or light sheeting.

Nikon man myself,
always appreciate some good pics,

Default Birkhamshore

Here is the fly you were after,

Click the image to open in full size.
  • Hook: 12/14 B175, although they look better on Tiemco 760SP
  • Thread: Black
  • Tail: GP Crest
  • Body: Golden Olive Seals fur
  • Rib: Glo-brite no.4
  • Hackle: Olive Grizle (Dullish!)
  • Front Hackle: Brown English Partridge
Will photo again at the weekend in daylight to get the colours true
Edit - Here's a shot showing truer colour. (Just needed to fiddle with a few more knobs on me camera)

Thanks for that Ben.. "That looks like a useful wee bumble ribbed with glo-brite no.4 over a genuine 'golden olive' body" said bruglar Bill.......
"I'll have that"
