Just started reading the "Hatches " mag and i am intrested in tying the above fly,but i am a bit confused about the body, its the palmered hackle they use,its and i quote"the short side of yellow dyed dove flight feather clipped to size" are they talking about a pigeon wing feather or am i just showing my ignorance? Thanks

Basically, yes. No doubt the originater of the fly used a dove feather and dyed it yellow. Can do same with pigeon but might get a slight colour difference, depends on the bleaching and dying of the feather.

Default Its a biot hackle!

The short side of a primary feather is where you get the biot from. Dove has been selected presumably because the biots are finer and easier to wrap than those from a larger bird such as a pigeon. The feather will need splitting or stripping as the stem will be to stiff and wide to wrap.

The fly you mention looks a little odd to me, I can't help thinking that those biots will give a huge footprint and not the subtle hatching mayfly shape I'd prefer, still, it may work, only your field test will tell.

Cheers
