Thumbs up Select a fly club

i think we will go for this for now ,and i hope to see many of the great tiers on here add their thoughts and advice on patterns / methods / materials to help the newer members who are trying out fly tying for the first time or have only been tying for a year or so like myself and are still having problems with certain methods , like pinch n loop which drives me mad as i always tend to pull the wing down over one side slightly .

anyway lets get started with a fly to start people off ,by making tonight a vote night on the first fly to be tied ,and tomorrow a night of actual tying and discussion about methods used and origin of the said fly with also any variations of said fly welcome to be shown after the original pattern .
so what do you guys think of this to start us off and I'm up for any type of fly ( Just hope i have the materials at hand ) and for my vote i think i will go with a simple pattern to start off with like the very effective G,R,H,E ,,,,, so lets hear your own thoughts on what fly u would like to tie first ,and remember to spend a little time researching the fly as i will be so as i can add any interesting information i find on it .

i look forward to your thoughts and more than anything all those fantastic flies.

Hi ufm,

I am not sure how well the live chat thing will work but think you've chosen a good pattern
to start with.

Try the chat thing and if it does not work perhaps go with the fly of the week idea.

I will get my vice out tomorrow and give it a go with you!

Do you think it might be worth having a thread per fly?

Cheers and thanks for starting this up

Andy

Sorry, the idea being that we are all on line posting stuff tomorrow night in a kind of live chat style. I wondered if it might be better to collect peoples thoughts over the course of a week.

a chat room would be great as It would allow for people to get hands on help if they are finding a certain part of a fly a problem,, and with video chat it would be even better ,not sure how we could go about this through the site ,,or if we could do it at all ?????.

I really hope people try to get this one up and running,, as I'm sure it will be something that will be remembered and carried on to next year if we get the right amount of interest ,so come on guys and don't be scared to get involved if you are new to the fly tying scene as we were all newbies at one time and if i remember right those were the best days of my tying so far as i loved learning new methods and new patterns .

Suppose it would be our own interpretation of the chosen fly mate....

One thread per fly should be ok, I guess.

GRHE for the first I reckon, or at least variants, favourite versions etc....

Great idea and would love to be involved - so hope novice tyers are as welcome as the experts.

I think the live chat is a nice idea but hard to work - a lot of people will be ruled out by other commitments and think it will be hard to avoid IT gremlins ruining the experience. Maybe just a pattern thrown out there and people posting there variations, concept behind it, explanation of techniques and ensuing discussion?

GRHE sounds a good start by the way, or PTN etc.

good to see some interest starting on this one ,so will we be sticking to the G,R,H,E for tomorrow night and from what Ive been reading people just want to go ahead with their own type / interpretation of the fly to be tied with variation welcome also .
this should be great fun and I'm looking forward to seeing how people have come along in their tying over the season and also I'm really looking forward to nit picking a few brains on methods and materials etc!!!!.

lets hope a lot more get involved over the next few weeks guys n Girls.
