I think you'll find that was me not having the vice turned perfectly level. The bit of hook you can see is the bottom of the hook near the barb.

I prefer yours as well Steve, but CC I believe he ties for fast flowing rivers and he possibly wants to make a fly that's a more attractive morsel when it's flying past.

I'd have thought the majority of GRHE's in the UK are chucked at still waters and fished slowly so a thinner profile perhaps appeals to us more

I've used a B175 for my pattern, what hook did you use and how's it different from a B175?

Cheers Andy. I used a Tiemco 5262. It's longer (for any given hook size and gape) than the B175. So for a #14, for example, it's about 2-3 eye-lengths longer. The B175 is 3X heavy while the 5262 is labelled 2X heavy. The below should give you an idea of the difference.
