Default Copper Wire Size ?

Hello all i want to buy some fine copper wire suitable for Pheasant Tail Nymphs & also for making dubbing brushes. I purchased a small sample pack from http://www.timsfreestuff.com/1987 as i hadn't a clue what size would be small enough. They are all far too big diameter .Anyway can someone tell me what diameter wires i need .Cheers

If you simply want to make weighted underbodies with copper wire, then medium thickness is what you want.
If you're tying Sawyer-type PT nymphs then you may want to actually tie & do a whip finish with the wire, in which case the fine is much easier to use.

Look here enameled copper wire. One purchase will last a lifetime.

http://wires.co.uk/acatalog/ECW_0100_0132.html

0.125mm is "fine" and what I use to rib PTNs etc. If you PM me your address I will send you a sample so you can judge thickness.

Oops -snap! Although I would get the enameled wire so that it doesn't tarnish.

I believe that Sawyer and Kite used to get theirs from old radio sets and it had to be fine enough to use in place of thread as only copper wire was used in the fly construction.

Maplin does a 40 s.w.g. - 0.125mm - part number YN92 - one reel is more than any amateur will use in a lifetime.
