Default Fresh from the vice

Here are a few from this week. A couple of 'experimental' buzzers and another go at a dabbler, which I think has too much of a wing and not enough cloak.

I'm struggling to get any depth of field in my shots, see the hackle below. Any tips for this? I'm using a cheap compact digital (Sony W50) so not massive scope for adjustment, I can't manually set the F number or do manual focus.

Any comments greatfully received.

The photo's you used are very good indeed, probably at or near the limit of the camera's capability. Not a camera I know anything about though, you could try altering the lighting set up, but avoid using flash. It may be possible to use a clip-on type circular polarizing filter which could increase the depth of colour saturation a bit, but at the end of the day I doubt if either method would give you a significant increase in depth of field.

I don't think you can manually control the aperture (f-stop) setting on the Sony DSC W30. It's a pretty cheap camera but remember you're posting a picture of a fly on the web not pitching photos for the National Portrait Gallery. The photos are perfectly fine. Better to focus on the tying.
