Default Fly-Tying Guild - Herts

As much as I like sharing my flies with you guys, I have fancied for a while joining a club, sharing some ideas and hopefully learning a few things. I'm not convinced the London area is full of fly tying clubs! but I know there is a fly tying guild in Herts.

I've approached the guys on the FTG stand at a few shows with the intention of joining but never felt welcome, so have never taken the plunge. I'm a relatively young guy and it felt like a bit of an ol' boys club.

I'm tempted to try it anyway this winter, but before I do I wondered if anyone here is a member of the herts branch? I'd like to hear your experiences before I decide whether to join.

Ben,

The Hertfordshire branch is the only gay branch in the UK. I'm sure they'd welcome a good looking young man like you into their clutches.

Your reversed green peter should go down well.

Don't forget to demonstrate your dressings of the Corrib brown hatter and the Rutland shirt lifter!

See you at Bewl in a few weeks time.

GH

Default Herts Branch

While I'm not a member of this branch I have tied at their meetings on a couple of occasions and they seem perfectly normal well adjusted fly fishing maniacs.

Take the plunge. As to the guild not being friendly at shows ..did you go to the right booth? If still unsure come and seek me out at the BFFI and I'll introduce you to some of the guys.

I'm on the "any fly tying questions?" row with Ian Mckenzie and others

Cheers

I have been a member of the Herts Branch of the FDG for nearly 10 years and I can assure you that it is certainly NOT a gay branch...

I do hope that Grasshopper was making that comment in jest because if not he MUST know something that I don't - maybe he's a little on the gay side?????

Benlikestofish, you would be made most welcome if you came along to one of twice-monthly meetings. We have some excellent speakers as well as tying classes.

Checkout our website: Flydressers Guild|Fly Dressers Hertfordshire for an up-to-date programme of events.
