Angry Blobs , what a bore to tie

Well i thought i better make a start to re-plenishing the box today and i forgot how boring blobs were and i only just scraped the surface
I bought some Partridge Big mouth Nymph hooks size 12 the other day and thought i would see how they were.
Turns out they make a nice blob hook but will have to see how they fish compared to my prefered Kamasan B980's.
Anyone had any experience with them.

Nice Tying mate, however, I feel you literally may come 'unstuck' with the Partridge BMBH, IME, I have bumped a lot of fish using these hooks, and found the Hayabusa Short Shank #6 to be way better!!

If you insist on using them, make sure you set that hook!! Hard!!

Carl

I use BM hooks yeah.

Seem fine to me, but it's hard to see if there's anything wrong with them. I catch on them, so guess they work?
The boy loses lots but he's young.

Jazz em up with goose biots and such? They look ace mate

I dont insist on using them Carl, just thought they looked a good solid hook with a good gape
What you just said ties in with the rumours i have also heard from other top anglers but , lol ,
Is this just a rumour past on by angler to angler or are they really not worth the risk!
They look and are shaped well enough and i cant understand why they would bump off fish!
Whats your thoughts on the B980's then ?
Thanks for the advice anyway

I've never used the B980's mate, I bought 300 #10 BMBH, a few years back, tied around 200 blobs, and then proceeded to give the flies, and the hooks away after a season of struggling with them...

They do look a solid hook, and I, like you, think they would be great for blobs, but for the love of god, I struggle to land a fish on them.....

After that, I bought Hayabusa Short Shanks #6, and love them.....that is when the fish decide to take them....

All I can think of is that the gauge of the wire and the sheer strength of them is just too much, If you compare them to a Hayabusa Short shank, which have that little bit of 'play' in them, BMBH dont have any 'play' in them at all.....

Just my thoughts, and like yourself, have heard that rumour among many anglers.

True
Good advice, I just have loads of biots I put them on my cornflakes I have so many.
I don't always pull mine at speed, and they're used as high contrasting colour, usually red, but yeah I get your point. They'd eat them regadless

Thanks for your thoughts and have taken them on board
I think it boils down to most things in fishing and thats confidence, but best i get a few 100 Hayabusas in reserve just incase

I doubt I'll ever tie or fish a blob, but then I don't fish stockie rainbows. Of course tying a blob requires little tying skills.

PS Probably the reason they're a bore to tie is because they're so easy to tie?
