Question Goats Toe

Any tips on the best way to apply the Peacock neck hackle for a Goats Toe?
I have been snipping of the barbs and tying them in position just before finishing the fly.
Would it be better to use hackle pliers and wind as for a normal head hackle or tie them onto the shank `forwards', under the body and then fold them back into position before finishing the fly?

Regards
Billy

Yes, you'll get better hackle movement as the tips are finer.

Always wound on like a normal hackle but i catch it in by the tip, as arkle says the fibres are finer and gives it more movement.

I tie them forwards and fold back after the body is wound. Gives you better control over fibre length.
