Default From the vice tonight

Following up from the great comments I had from my last post, I thought I would try my achiles heel tonight, palmered wets.

The Katie is a good one for me, I'd be happy to fish that. But, the snatcher looks pants, the head hackle is too sparse and the body hackle is patchy, especially around the bend which is where I always seem to go wrong. Should I double up the head hackle to make it a bit thicker, I'm using a hen neck cape and if I go for a longer feather (to get more turns) the barbs are too long. Any advice greatfully received.

I don't think they look too bad at all. I don't think it's necessarily your palmering that's the problem more your ribbing if anything. Trapping fibres leads to an uneven look so a bit more care in that department and you'll be as good as gold I reckon.

Thanks for the comments gents.

Believe it or not I did have a good look at Gerrys SBS for the snatcher before tying - I've had another look since and I think I know where mine is different.

Midlander, you're right it is the ribbing that's the problem. I've tried allsorts, waggling the rib as I wind, going fast, the ones above were done slow and I tried to pick out the trapped hackles with a dubbing needle as I was working along and the results were better than usual. I won't be happy until they look like Cap n Fishys dabbler!

Snatch - I would happily swap any 10 of my ties for 1 of your buzzers! so until the ratio is down to at least 2:1 I will keep on asking

Cheers - Steve
