I dont really fish trout from a boat so am not qualified to answer unless of course we are talking pike. If thats the case i only use two flies and dont know the names of them but the best one is silver and big. So the big silvery sparky fly for pike is the greatest fly pattern ever.

But is it a "fly"? Boobies on a river, interesting thought.

Well bask in the days of Datchet- tandem mounted ,size 4 longshanks, half a packet of marabou with a golf ball sized muddler head was my biggest ever fly, even had fish take it as a dry .
Dry ish it represented sliced bread from some of the appalling sandwiches I made, wet and down deep I guess some of the larger fry!
Oh forgot chennille body and usually white, fly box at the time was a breifcase
