Default A question re bead head nymphs...

If I want to make the bead the thorax and pull a wing case over the top of the bead and secure it at the head (e.g. a bead-head PTN) how do I best manage a gap for the tie-off and head. I've done plenty where I've tied off hard behind the bead but was wondering how best to manage it this way. Do you just ensure the bead is sitting a little loose and then lock it back when tying off the wing case?

Any guidance as to what would make a stronger fly would be appreciated.

Steve

If you run some thread onto the shank of hook just back from the eye,to make a tight fit for the bead tie off. put a drop of superglue onto thread slide bead on .sorted.

So then you tie off behind the bead, reattach the thread in front of the bead, pull the wing case over and then tie off again?

Yes - is the answer.... unless, you tie the wing case in first, then slide on the bead and finish the fly by taking the wingcase backwards over the bead to tie off behind the bead.
