Default wet fly hackle

Just been trolling through the internet looking at some wet flies, found a few useing partridge feathers, HUNGARIAN !!!!! surely an english or the french partridge would do? Why do some people try to make an easy job hard.

My tying has mainly been dry flies, buzzers and lures {sorry about the last one} i now want to expand my fly collection to include a big section of wet flies. Please excuse my ignorance but i am assuming that all wet fly hackles are tied useing hen feathers?I would also appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction of which flies i should start with you know the must have wet flies,i have looked at the sbs section but there are quite a few on there i just want to know were to start. thank you.

Perdix perdix is the Grey, English or Hungarian partridge

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Partridge

It is the best body feather to hackle 'partridge' series spiders.

The Red-legged or French partridge Alectoris rufa feathers are unsuitable for partridge spiders.

You can tie wets with a cock hackle, but myself, and lots of other tyers prefer hen,
As it gives more movement to your Flees.

What about Scottish partridges, surely they are vastly superior?

Default Cookshill sell the best partridge in the world.

Dear Mr Horses..

Call Steve Cooper at

http://www.cookshill-flytying.co.uk
as mentioned above, buy a pelt and you will be set up for life.

Steve should have some in stock - if not, we are at the start of the shooting season, you will not have long to wait.

There is no question - Steve's goods cannot be bettered for quality and the price is good too.
Do not waste your time with inferior quality materials.

happy tying,
Roy

p.s. Irish partridges are the finest.
