I only ever deal with dealers who include VAT in with their prices, I like to see the final price, the one which I am paying, (ex VAT) puts me right off.

The reason some places don't put vat on the prices isn't because they're trying to hoodwink you or get one over on you or anything, it's because they are more often than not primarily trade suppliers.... and trade buyers ultimately don't pay the vat. It's a simple formula to work out the vat and your final price.

The Distance selling regulations don't agree with you on that one. Also, the subject website has a clear and separate page dedicated to trade enquiries.

Distance selling and online trading

Provide consumers with clear information

Businesses that sell to consumers by mail order, phone, fax, internet or digital TV must give clear and comprehensible 'prior information' to help them decide whether to buy.
Distance-selling regulations require you to set out:
  • your business name and address (when advance payment is required)
  • a description of the goods or services
  • prices, including all taxes
  • delivery costs
  • payment arrangements
  • arrangements and date for delivery of goods or performance of services - within 30 days of the order if you don't specify a date
  • the consumer's right to cancel the order and details of who bears the cost of returning the goods if they do
  • how long prices remain valid
  • the minimum duration of contracts

A very handy link cheers Taff.

Im like you grayling and like to see the full price, many knock off the VAT as it shows it cheaper and many think they are buying it cheaper till it gets added.Looks very salesy ,some of the big angling centres do it and seem to do well. Not for me though.

Thanks for the link... It looks good...

In case anyone is struggling with the maths... just multiply the figure by 1.15 (for 15% vat)...

Cheers
JJ

Where I buy wire it costs £1.10 a spool and that's probably enough for loads (100's?) of flies so why would I bother looking for some alternative that's perhaps a wee bit cheaper but probably not what I want in the first place?

Up norf where I am there is a shop called boyes ,,, its a real bargain basement old fashioned dept store witha massive haberdashery section I get loads of wire and stuff from them and it costs 10% of what the mainstream fly tying shops sell,,,

Saying that I was over nr Huddersfield at the weekend and visited Fly Only for the first time,, It has the best selection of fly tying stuff I have seen for many moons and at good prices would recomend highly...

WTF have 'distance selling' regulations got to do with anything I'm talking about laws as old as VAT itself.

And there you have it. CONSUMERS. Trade customers of trade suppliers are not, in the case of this argument, and in the eyes of the taxman, consumers.

THATS WHY THEY DON'T QUOTE THE VAT.
