Bruce,

The 10/0 Roman Moser Powersilk has a beaking strain of about 4 lbs - incredibly strong for a tying thread.

BUT - it is very slippery and pretty pricey as there is only 45yds on a spool.

The grey powersilk is very pale and will take a permanent marker with no problems - just let it dry for a few seconds before wrapping.

There is also the UTC version of powersilk but I would steer clear of this for small patterns - whilst it is very strong, fine and takes colours, it does fray a lot more easily than powersilk.

I personally use 14/0 Sheer for patterns down to size 24 - very little build up, stacks of good colours.

I have just started using Trico instead of Spider web for my alsolute finest thread - both have a breaking strain of just 4 oz but where Spiderweb (16/0) is a single strand thread with no stretch, the Trico (17/0) is multi strand and has some stretch to it so is more forgiving when you forget how fine it is when working with it.

Plus - the Trico comes in spools of 200 yards compared to Spiderweb (100 yards) at the same price.

Kind regards

I'll second 14/0 sheer. I use it for all river dries, nymphs and wets - a top quality thread and will tie down to 20s no probs.

Please don't mind me asking, but why do you need to look for a thread like you describe ? As the g.s.p's are incredibly strong, in fact far stronger than
you need for any small hook.

Are you having problems with threads breaking ? If so, you may need to check BOTH ends of the spigot on your bobbin holder.

Or do you have rough skin on your hands that could be catching the thread, if that's the case get yourself a pumice based skin cleanser & some conditioning cream such as Neutrogena or similar.

Also check the tension that your b/h puts on the thread.
