Default Shield beetle,need help

At my local Fishery, Trout have been stuffed with this beetle,
It has a Light Brown top half and underneath is a orange,
Its a big Beetle just under half inch, with a shield shape, therefore the name,i think the come in other colours, but these are only of the above colour, yet have never seen any flying around or floating on the water surface, i take it they are not a Water Beetle?
Any patterns for this Insect? how would you fish them?
And will the hatch be short lived?
Being a large insect, how do i not see them, are the trout taking them in the Dark?
Cheers Laurie.

Interesting Insect, but as i said, why havnt i seen them, and never seen one on top of the water? spent a good couple of hours today looking for them round the small loch.
Could i be right that Trout are taking them during the night?

I have had a fantastic weeks fishing with these buggers on the water catching some nice bags of rainbows. They tend to lie on their backs in the water kicking their legs.

The only fly that worked for me was an orange hopper with a ginger head hackle and a mirage rib. They have turned their noses up at everything else. Maybe it's just conicendence but im not complaining.
The takes seemed to be very subtle not what you would expect!!!!!!

Don't know what they are called.
