Whatever happened to "that will catch fish"
The jig hook i only played with a wee but last year so am no expert. It did well though so more experimenting this year.
The Europeans use them alot and they are miles ahead of us in Grayling techniques so i tend to follow their leed.
Anyway the Jig hook fishes with its **** in the air, ie the bead trundles along the bottom with its tail pointing up wards, they wiggle more than traditionally tied hook. The are ONLY effective on the point when hitting the river bed.
Fishcake i agree about the reduced gape, maybe its the way they fish but i have never noticed a reduced hook up rate, if anything its better than normal, like i said i am no expert but it must be they way the fly sits.
Graham point taken about the quill, i agree if it catches when others dont its worth it. To be honest i just nipped down to the river to try it (i know criminal offense fishing for trout with nymphs and yes i know all my hair will fall out tonight in my sleep) and caught two wee brownies and so far its holding together.I do like the idea of hard as nails built up a bit, maybe it will give in more of an internal glow so thanks for that

. As far as i am aware the sizes available are from 10 to 16 , Hanak and Knapek are the ones i have. I would love 18s so if you find them please let me know.
Any other questions
